Midwinter

The Light Returns

Midwinter, also known as Yule, is the celebration of returning light. In the deepest darkness, the seed of new life is born. It is a time of rest, warmth, and hope.

Yule Celebration

Candles, evergreens, and fire symbolize the slowly returning light. Many people create a Yule log or light candles for protection and good fortune.

Yule symbols:
• pine – eternity
• candles – returning light
• red & green – life and warmth
• orange – solar energy

Silence and Reflection

Midwinter invites introspection. Meditation, journaling, and quiet moments help you feel and strengthen your inner light.

A simple Yule meditation:
• light a candle
• focus on the small flame
• feel how the light slowly grows

Wishes for the New Year

Many traditions involve writing wishes for the coming year. These are kept, burned, or buried as a symbol of new growth.

You can also create a “wish jar” with:
• a note with your wish
• a few pine needles
• a small piece of cinnamon
• a drop of oil
